Empathie narrative, autothéorie et énactivisme chez: Virginia Pesemapeo Bordeleau et Didier Eribon
Sinopsis
The aim of this contribution is twofold. On the one hand, it revisits, almost two decades after its formulation, one of the most important contributions to the understanding of the relationship between literature and empathy, namely Suzanne Keen’s theory of narrative empathy. On the other hand, I aim to explore the link between empathy and autotheory. Through the analysis of two autotheoretical texts, one belonging to contemporary French literature and the other to the Indigenous literatures of Quebec, I highlight the strategies deployed in the construction of several empathetic processes. I also show that autotheory allows us to broaden the categorization of empathy proposed by Keen, by adding another category, namely that of “self-empathizing”.
