L’empathie à l’oeuvre dans la photographie et la photolittérature
Sinopsis
This chapter begins by examining the empathetic power of photographs, and it outlines from a historical perspective some of the contributions that photography makes to our understanding of this notion. Secondly, an in-depth study clarifies these remarks, focusing on a number of photoliterary works (Annie Ernaux and Marc Marie’s L’Usage de la photo, 2005; Anny Duperey’s Le Voile noir, 1992, and Janice Williamson’s Crybaby!, 1998). These books use different phototextual arrangements in order to share with readers the authors’ traumatic experiences.
