Synopsis
The paper raises the question whether forgiveness is possible “after Auschwitz”. Or rather, it argues that it is not possible, or even necessary, but that it is possible and necessary for there to be reconciliation between the innocent generations of descendants that are burdened of the past. The encounter groups in which the children (and other offsprings) of the perpetrators and of the survivors meet to work through the difficult legacy they have left behind contribute to making this happen.
Keywords: Shoah, forgivness, reconciliation, encounter group
